How do I find a book or article in the library

Answer

Finding a Book:

  1. Go to the KCC Library homepage and use OneSearch — the main search bar on the page.

  2. Enter the titleauthor, or both.

    • Example: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

    • You can search by just the title or just the author if you’re unsure of both.

  3. Review your results, then use the filters on the left-hand side to narrow your search (e.g., “Currently on Shelf,” or by publication date).

  4. If a record says “Available Online,” click the title and follow the prompts to access the eBook.

  5. If it lists a Call Number (for example: PS3562.E353 T6 1960), that means it’s a physical book on our shelves — use the call number to locate it in the stacks.

  6. If the book is listed as part of “Reserves”, it’s kept behind the Circulation Desk. Ask for it by title.

Finding an Article:

  1. On the KCC Library website, click the button labeled “Peer-Reviewed Articles.”

  2. Enter keywords that describe your topic.

    • Example: “climate change” AND “urban planning.”

  3. Use quotation marks around multi-word phrases like “New York City” to get more accurate results.

  4. Browse your results — if you see “Available Online,” click to access the full article.

⚠️ Off-Campus Access: If you’re searching from home or outside the KCC network, you’ll be prompted to sign in with your CUNY Single Sign-On (SSO) using your CUNY credentials.
