How do I find a book or article in the library
Answer
Finding a Book:
-
Go to the KCC Library homepage and use OneSearch — the main search bar on the page.
-
Enter the title, author, or both.
-
Example: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
-
You can search by just the title or just the author if you’re unsure of both.
-
-
Review your results, then use the filters on the left-hand side to narrow your search (e.g., “Currently on Shelf,” or by publication date).
-
If a record says “Available Online,” click the title and follow the prompts to access the eBook.
-
If it lists a Call Number (for example: PS3562.E353 T6 1960), that means it’s a physical book on our shelves — use the call number to locate it in the stacks.
-
If the book is listed as part of “Reserves”, it’s kept behind the Circulation Desk. Ask for it by title.
Finding an Article:
-
On the KCC Library website, click the button labeled “Peer-Reviewed Articles.”
-
Enter keywords that describe your topic.
-
Example: “climate change” AND “urban planning.”
-
-
Use quotation marks around multi-word phrases like “New York City” to get more accurate results.
-
Browse your results — if you see “Available Online,” click to access the full article.
⚠️ Off-Campus Access: If you’re searching from home or outside the KCC network, you’ll be prompted to sign in with your CUNY Single Sign-On (SSO) using your CUNY credentials.
